Buy, Hold Sell — Round 10

Hello coaches! Round 10 saw some bumper SuperCoach scores (hello Clarry Oliver double ton!), presented us with some viable trade down options in terms of rookies and some appealing trade up options as well.

Let’s take a look at who you should be looking to buy, hold and sell this week.

Buy

Cody Weightman
Two spritely games on the bounce from Weightman who is set to skyrocket in price over the coming weeks despite a slightly elevated rookie price of $173K. As long as he keeps kicking goals and playing his role, he looks like a safe option. Breakeven of -70 this week!

James Madden
Played a very nice game against the Tigers for 78 points and pushes his breakeven down to -58. Personally, I’m not as sold on his job security in the short-term as I am on Weightman, but if he continues to play he should make some quick cash.

Aaron Hall
Four tons on the bounce now for Hall who looks like he could be an answer to our forward line woes. Still only in 4% of teams, his ceiling is huge and North are clearly looking to him as a distributor of the ball off half-back and through the middle.

Jack Steele
Continues to hover in the $560K range and is ripe for the picking if you need another premium midfield option. Hasn’t gone over 116 since Round 4, but the Saints have a nice run to their bye (North, Swans and Crows) which offers some big-scoring potential. Buy up now!

Jordan Ridley
Back-to-back 105s for Ridley and so now is the time to jump on if you want him, with a breakeven of 79 this week. He’s a low-risk buy option given almost a third of all teams currently own him.

Hold

Matt Flynn
This guy just continues to score well every time he gets a crack in the Giants’ senior side. Kicked a couple of goals on Sunday against West Coast which I think will convince Leon Cameron that playing both Mummy and Flynn is an option. The revelation of a pectoral injury to Preuss has seen his job security get a boost as well.

Changkuoth Jiath
Just one score over 61 from CJ’s last four games is a worry, but I think he’s a ‘hold until the bye’ player. The Hawks play Gold Coast this week and I think he can bounce back with a reasonable score. He can sit at D6 until you complete the rest of your team.

James Jordon
Had a quiet one against the Crows which was his first sub-70 score since Round 4. He’s another ‘hold until the bye’ player, although his breakeven is now 75 so I don’t think we can expect to see much cash from him in the short-term.

Anthony Scott (part 1)
Was subbed out against St Kilda with ‘blurred vision’ according to the Dogs, which is a bit of a worry. Assuming he’s named this week he should be safe to hold, although his breakeven of 93 will stunt any further growth before his bye.

Medical Subs
Tom Highmore and Nathan Murphy were the sub for their respective teams over the weekend, but I think we can expect to see both of them back into the playing 22s this week.

Sell

Anthony Scott (part 2)
On the other hand, if you’re looking to bring in one of Weightman or Madden this week, Scott looks like the obvious trade out candidate. His 18 points on the weekend means he’s now maxed out his price growth as that low score will stay in his price cycle for a fortnight.

Tom Powell
Back-to-back scores in the 40s for Powell who looks like he’s just about cooked from a SuperCoach perspective. The Kangaroos have a tough three weeks coming up with St Kilda, GWS and Brisbane either side of their bye so now is the time to jump off.

Miles Bergman
Could easily be in the ‘Hold’ section, but his job security has taken a hit with some more senior Port Adelaide players returning. I think he’s now expendable if you’re looking to trade out a rookie who has hit somewhere near their cash generation limit.

Adam Treloar
Syndesmosis is the trendy injury in AFL circles at the moment and it’s claimed another high-profile victim in Treloar who was sent for surgery and 6–8 weeks on the side-lines. If you had him as a POD, you’ll need to trade.
