Buy, Hold, Sell — Round 11

Happy bye rounds, SuperCoaches!

The byes are here and barring any hiccups with the fixture, we now move to best 18 scoring for three weeks as each team moves through their bye rounds.

Ideally you should be approaching a full premium side, moving most (if not all) of your rookies off the field by the time we return to a full fixture.

Here’s the list of bye, hold and sell options to help start your bye rounds off on the right foot.

Buy

Not many players to choose from this week as we head into the first week of bye rounds. I usually advocate for trading down in the first week if you have to and building a bank to use on upgrades in the second and third bye weeks.

In terms of trade down options, Max Holmes and Ned Reeves will both be on the bubble heading into Round 13 next week and Reeves in particular will be a popular option as coaches move on Matt Flynn. Trent Bianco and Callum Coleman-Jones were both very impressive in their first games, but you have the option of waiting another week on both. Coleman-Jones’ job security got a boost yesterday with the news that Toby Nankervis had hurt his knee and would miss a couple of weeks.

Isaac Heeney
It’s around this time of the year that we start looking around for the ultra-discounted players, and Isaac Heeney is one of them. Dominated against Carlton on Sunday and if he can stay on the park could be a nice F5–6 option. He hasn’t had his bye yet though, so make sure he fits into your existing structure before pulling the trigger, but a breakeven of 25 means he’s well and truly bottomed out.

Zach Merrett
Paying $541K for a guy averaging 109 is great shopping, so if you need a midfield premo this week Merrett is a solid pick. Seems to be relishing having a sidekick to play alongside in Darcy Parish.

Hold

Tim Taranto
At one stage had more disposals than he had SuperCoach points against Brisbane as he butchered the ball early on. Thankfully he recovered to a reasonable score of 87 given the circumstances. Should be able to sit at M8 in your side and be the last player you upgrade if you have enough trades left.

Sell

Changkuoth Jiath
Has been a solid enough mid-pricer for many coaches, averaging 83.5 to his bye round. But with 4 of his last 5 scores now 66 or less, it’s come time to move him on and bring in a genuine premium defender. You could bench him for this week and move him to Whitfield the following week when both return from their byes.

Sam Berry
Got subbed out of the game with concussion on Sunday against Richmond and will now miss next week as a result. He’s been a nice cash maker, but it’s time to trade if you still have him.

Miles Bergman
Was the sub for a second week in a row and although he kicked a goal when he came on, a score of 14 has killed off any further potential cash generation, plus he has his bye this week. Time to go.
