Hello SuperCoaches,

Welcome to Captain’s Corner for Round 11 and although it looked as though we may not have 9 games to look at this week, the AFL has managed to get all teams that needed to be out of Melbourne this week to other cities just in time.

It’s unusual to have so many of the ‘safe’ captaincy options playing in the same game on Friday night, so making the right choice will be crucial in ensuring you start the round strongly.

With that in mind, let’s take a look at the best VC and C options this week.

Vice-Captains

Max Gawn
Max hasn’t had a proper monster score for a little while now, averaging 112.6 from his last 5 games. That’s nothing to sneeze at, but it’s probably not the heights we come to see normally from him. I think he can turn that around this week against the Bulldogs in what should be a cracking contest where influence on the game early will be telling.
Last 3 vs WB: 117, 139, 131

Clayton Oliver
Simply has to be in this list on the back of his remarkable double ton against Adelaide last week. His record against the Dogs isn’t amazing, but I don’t really think that matters much given he’s one of the most in-form midfielders in the competition.
Last 3 vs WB: 100, 75, 125

Jack Macrae
As safe as you can get for a 120+ score every week and this week should be no different. Has a great track record against Melbourne and the home confines of Marvel Stadium should suit.
Last 3 vs MELB: 141, 120, 105

Marcus Bontempelli
On a hot streak averaging 147.5 from his last 3 matches and it looks unlikely that Melbourne will opt to tag the Bulldogs skipper. Could go massive again if he hits the scoreboard like he has in recent weeks.
Last 3 vs MELB: 135, 93, 128

Brodie Grundy
If you’re looking outside of Friday night, Grundy looks the safe play against Geelong. Has scored well against them recently and was back to somewhere near his best last week against Port Adelaide.
Last 3 vs GEEL: 144, 81, 137

Captains

Jack Steele
A bit like Max Gawn in recent weeks, he hasn’t pumped out the monster scores we saw from him early in the season. In saying that, he’s yet to drop a sub-90 score this year, so he’s remarkably consistent.
Last 3 vs NM: 128, 109, 68

Tom Mitchell
Another player who’s on a hot streak, averaging 121.7 from his last 3 games. He also returns to the SCG this week which is obviously a happy hunting ground for him from his Sydney days. I think he can go 130+ again this week.
Last 3 vs GCS: 130, 106, 103

Zach Merrett
Has a remarkably consistent scoring pattern against West Coast right the way across his career to date, with just one score below 104 against the Eagles in 7 outings against them.
Last 3 vs WCE: 125, 104, 112

Rory Laird
Has kind of flown under the radar a bit this season but he’s going as well as he ever has from a SuperCoach perspective. Hasn’t really been in a position to be a captain option this season but could be the POD play this week.
Last 3 vs RICH: 108, 121, 120

Sam Walsh
Are we looking at the next rolled gold SuperCoach premium in the making? It’s very possible. His record against Sydney is excellent, including a massive 161 against them last year. A smokey captain who not many will go for this week.
Last 3 vs SYD: 161, 112, 103
